Discover many secrets of the Central Australian deserts at the Alice Springs Desert Park. The natural and cultural environment of arid Australia is presented in three stunning desert habitats.
Enjoy an easy walk through Desert Rivers, Sand Country and the Woodland and see and hear hundreds of species of plants and animals.
Deserts are full of life – stories of the desert are shared through interpretative displays, daily guide presentations, audio guides in 4 languages and movies. Professional guides share stories and insights into the worlds of plants, animals and people. A range of guide activities are held daily, a schedule is available on entry.
Share in Nature at its best – wander through the desert and discover the plants, animals and culture of Central Australia. See fish from a desert river and explore the rich desert woodlands.
Wildlife – throughout the Park there are fantastic opportunities for wildlife viewing including many aviaries, the Nocturnal House, the Nature Theatre and the giants of the desert – the kangaroo and emu.
Nocturnal House – spot Central Australian reptiles, invertebrates and rare or endangered animals of the night in one of the most spectacular nocturnal houses in the world.
Nature Theatre – free-flying birds of prey and other animals demonstrate their natural survival skills including hunting and foraging in a free-spirited display. Do not miss this highlight. Commences at 10am and 3.30pm daily.
Exhibition Centre – Learn about 4.5 billion years of this planet’s evolution during the captivating “Changing Heart” big screen movie. Movie screens at 9.15am, 10.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 3.00pm and 5.10pm.
Learn from one of the oldest living cultures in the world – Australia is a very big country and different Aboriginal cultures have evolved in different areas in response to local plants, animals and landscapes.
